I totally agree on the crossdevelopment, and that's why I thought that HD in the actual STE would not be all that important.
My plan is to develop on PC+emulator, and then copy to disk and test-run on real Atari now and then. I use that procedure with pretty much every retro system.
To go a bit further off-topic, do you happen to have a good skeleton-source for crossdevelopment? It would be great to have some simple source to start from that handles the necessary setup, and perhaps a toolchain that creates a correct binary.
I must admit that I know almost nothing about ST coding, so I have no idea on how system-friendly you need to write your code, and how much code is needed.
I'm more used to 8-bit systems, where you assemble a binary to some fixed address, and *BAM* working executable! :)
