* First my demoblog is intended to non-sceners and above all non-coders like me who would understand no shit to technical details.
Even better then! If you don't make a distinction between a modfile and a looped sample or streamed music it won't matter to them much then :).
* Secondly what I mean when I write "samples" is demo using digitized samples that loop within seconds, soon becoming sort of mental torture. For instance the parallax screen in the Dark Side of The Spoon tho still enjoyable features such "sample". Best or worst example is the NECROSYS demo that is imho totally spoiled by a short looping sample.
I'm sure I can find quite a few demos with short and really shitty modfiles that have the same effect ;).
* You partly answered another of my questions : latest demos, above all STe DHS jewels, all feature "mods". Or are they MP3? MP2 ? I would rather call myself "modules" as they are original compositions as opposed to my definition of a sample.
mp3/mp2 are a bit too heavy for a plain st/ste to decode in real time. Heck, pretty much everything is too heavy for decoding in real time (check out mjj prod's stmp3 or checkpoint's chasey as a couple of notable exceptions to this rule)! So the most popular choices are either have long loops which are sequenced (More or less zero, Cernit Trandafir, Brain damage etc.) or stream audio from hard drive (Drone, US policy etc).
