Well it's a bit difficult typing updates to the outer world when you have so little time available to have fun :). So I thought I'd write all the updates now in one go. (also, I didn't take many pics and they weren't worth uploading anyway, so I suppose this is a sort of atonement for lack of pics!)
So, Sommarhack 2015. The Atari gods were pleased from the offerings of the Scandinavian people and blessed the party with good weather and a healthy demo compo! Not only there were more than a couple of entries, they were all more or less of high quality. I plan to see the demos again on my setup here at home quite a few times! (well, first I want to take a shot at making a hard drive compatible version of Rebirth, more on that later).
A negative side of the good weather was the presence of mosquitos around. And I mean a LOT of mosquitos. Especially on Saturday evening after the compos while me, Wietze and 505 were trying to discuss a bit, we were forced to flee inside the party hall again or we'd have been stung to death :). Of course they were mostly countered using modern technology (anti-mosquito sprays were deployed all around the party) and not-so-modern technology AKA me and 505 were wearing long pairs of pants ;).
The BBQ of course was again one of the party's centerpieces - the coals were burning pretty much all day long while lots of burger and sausage sacrifices happened in order to please the Atari gods, and yup they were tasty^H^H^H^H^Hsuccessful! Not forgetting of course the fine tuning sauces!
I suppose I don't have to comment on the compos very much because I suppose that people have already seen the entries. With the exception of the Checkpoint one - impatient? Next time be at the god damned party ;). That entry of course was the cause for cardiac arrests #1 and #2 (Wietze and 505 respectively) when the demo bugged the first time it was shown - oops! Lighten up guys, things like this happen :).
One last thing about the compos: you might wonder why Rebirth by Cybernetics got such a low ranking. This was because of the really sad fact that the demo crashed while the compo was running, but instead of freezing or displaying bombs or whatever, the same part kept going on and on and on until the machine was resetted by hand. Unfortunately we weren't aware of that at the time, and I knew for a fact that the organisers actually tested the demo and it ran ok on the compo machine before the party even started. Again, things like this happens - I just wish we were informed that this happened as we were getting kind of bored watching the same thing for 4-5 minutes (which I personally considered a shame while watching the demo as it had such a good build-up up to that point). I hope this clears things up a bit.
These of course were only minor niggles as the rest of the party was neatly organised, the people had fun and were relaxed, some new developments were uncovered (Evil mentioned a couple in his report, there are still one or two more that will be announced "soon"!). I'm sure that I speak for everyone when I say that this was the best Sommarhack edition ever and I can only wish for more like this in the future! Big ups to the organisers!
P.S. Note to self: probably a good idea not to take part in future game compos at this party - it's not fun anymore ;)
