One could speed it up by making some tradeoffs. If you don't need 100% accurate screen rendering, for example, you could skip the C2P. You'll lose rasters and full screen effects, but at least you gain some (fair amount of) speed.
In CaSTaway, I just tunneled YM accesses to the real hardware instead of just emulating it, and that could probably improve things a bit in Hatari too.. Every little bit counts.
