Re: MiNT with CT63 at 80MHz

When mounting any expansion board on the CT60 it's inevitable that the length of its data, address and control signals are increased. Also, the small amount of grounding pins in the expansion connectors force the "return currents", that arise when signals are switching, to go a suboptimal path, which results in reflections. These are two reasons you can't run the CT60 at 100MHz any longer.

But this doesn't explain why the IDE accesses are messed up, since the IDE is located on the bus of the motherboard and therefore isn't physically connected to the CT60. The ABE chip on the CT60 acts as the gatekeeper between the motherboard bus (16MHz) and the CT60 bus. If the frequency of the CT60 bus seems to affect something on the motherboard, then the ABE must have something to do with it. Either there is an unknown bug in the ABE, or there is so bad signal noise on the CT60 bus that the ABE is affected in such a way that it disturbs the IDE bus cycles on the motherboard, by driving bus signals when it shouldn't.

Does Rodolphe have an opinion about this? :)
