Yes that's correct.

Basically you have two rows of this (all USB cables must have these colour wires inside according to the standard):

Red Whte Green Black Empty

Which is:

+5, Data-, Data+, Gnd, Nothing

If you get them in that order, looking from the front of the Falcon, then the only thing you can do is mix up Port A, with Port B.

And as to your problems with the physical connecting, I can't imagine what's up. I have the prototype Ethernat, not the 'retail' version, so I would appreciate a photo of your board and cable please.
