The Falcon 060 project is something I think some times :
4 chips need to be updated :
DSP 56001 --> 56301 (OK but a bit old now !)
Combel --> glue logic : easy to do, not a problem.
Videl --> Super Videl !
SDMA --> to be coded in a FPGA. Important work and may not be a good thing to do. Modern designs with DSP use the serial links from DSP to Audio codec...The problem is that if we remove & change a part of the architecture, we lost the compatibility with old software...it was what was choosen with Phenix 060 and I think it is this time yet the better choice....but in this case I'd prefer replace the poor slow 56301 at 100 Mhz by a monster like AD Blackfin at 750 MHz eh eh...or a TI 6211 with floating point unit.
What do you think ??
