PCI+USB sounds perfect! PCI for networking and USB for connectivity (HID and storage).
Coldfire sounds like fun some time in the future, atleast for assembly coders... :) Porting existing code (even binary patching) seems much easier and 68k emulation libraries are part of the system. The ACP project still lives and is working on it afaik. Maybe you could work with them? Certainly a Coldfire system with a 060 daughterboard equipped would be one fine Atari clone - esp. with a "SuperVidel" in the mix :)
For PPC there are already boards we could use, like the AmigaOne system (yes, the _hardware_ has been on sale for a while allready). Here the only nice way to do it imo would be to port MiNT to run natively on the system. Then allow for a mix of emulation and PPC code. Or again, a 060 dautherboard... :)
Emulation is already taken care of by the ARAnyM project, no need to start from scratch there. We want an OpenSource system dont we? AFROS/FreeMiNT is it.
Oh and very nice to see a post from Rodolphe here again - please make them more often... :-)
