Yes, PPC won't go away, I work for IBM in server support, so I use these everyday (AIX :-)) I rather meant in a desktop format that would be accessible to us retro users. The PowerPC and Power4/5/6 CPU's are very different animals, and the CPU's in the XBOX 360 and Ninty Wii, are custom jobs.
And you are also right in why Apple ditched PPC. There just wasn't a fast mobile PPC core available that didn't burn everyone's legs (and give you more than 15 minutes of battery life). It's a shame cos the quad G5 Mac is still one of the fastest desktop machines available (even if it does sound like an F-14 launching from the USS Nimitz).
