I also experienced the "half atari logo" problem. Rodolphe told me that this is some kind of sync problem between the blitter and I don't remember what (the logo is drawn by the blitter). After a couple of hard resets the computer starts normally.
Mine seems not to be sensitive to RAM. Every RAM I tried worked fine. Now I have a no-name 256MB installed.
I'm afaraid this doesn't help you ... Just wanted to share ... Sorry.
