The bus drivers in principle. Basically If it can become out dated then an entire motherboard needs replacing as PC users quickly find out. The idea is to over come this problem saving money in the long run. Not profitable for larger companies though!!

The glue logic and MMU areas needs careful planning as this has far reaching effects.
How many more Falcons would there be if Atari had installed the full 32Bit memory addressing paths (Like on the TT) instead of the 24bit it has. Even still today we are only reaching 1GB RAM. The 68030 has the ability to address 4GB.

USB is the most sought after device at the moment but we don't know what is around the corner. We cannot predict it, just be ready for it.
Hence the modular system.
