Strange problems with ENEC6.XI
Posted by: hencox Dec,05.2003-11:09

Hello!

I have some problems with my ENEC6.XIF/EtherNEC setup in MiNT (EasyMint with 1.15.2 kernel). It gives me excruciatingly slow transfers (5KB/s) when transferring large files. When doing a text-based ftp access to an ftp server with the hash marks turned on, the first 10-15 hashes are really quick. But then there's a sudden pause, and the rest of the data comes in small bursts with the same pause in between, so the overall speed is only about 5KB/s. Since I've heard figures of around 300KB/s, I'm beginning to wonder what is wrong with my setup.

Perhaps I need to tweak some timeout and buffer settings for the TCP-level or just above it, because when downloading a large file with CAB I usually get around 80KB/s (but my computer crashes after a few seconds every time also...)

When running the latest STiNG version (1.26) with the corresponding EtherNEC driver under Magic 6.20, I can download files with CAB without much problems. I see the transfer speed start at 90KB/s, but then it decreases slightly until settling around 60KB/s. There are very small pauses in the transfers here too, but they seem not to affect the overall speed as much as with MiNTNet.

I had a look into the "busenec6.i" file in the EtherNEC directory, that comes with the latest flash update for the CT60 (0.99f), and noticed the line:

BUGGY_HW EQU 1 ; if defined enables code to handle buggy hardware

Maybe I should try compiling the ENEC6.XIF driver with BUGGY_HW turned off. Anyone tried this already?

Regards
Henrik
