I think the Voodoo cards are are best bet. They are probably the fastest PCI based gfx cards, documentation is in abundance, can anyone say 'OpenGL', theyre very EASY to get used, and very very cheap too. The performance of these cards outstrips anything that ANY atari can throw at it - even if you had a coldfire based board the Voodoo would not be the bottleneck (bear in mind that that the PCI bus bandwidth is 133 mbyte/s theoretical maximum).
