Re: 10-15fps on afterburner

The code already runs in TT-RAM. But the video framebuffer has to be in ST-RAM (the videochip cannot read from TT-RAM).

Further on I don't think there is much difference in speed between a 060/72 and P/100, go look at the RC5 decryption thing, and this is raw computing only, doesn't involve any architecture around the CPU.

The architecture around the CPU is faster on your P/100, first it have a PCI graphics card which is alot faster than the ST-RAM/Videl, and secondly the PCI graphcis card have a native 8bit-chunky display, which the Videl doesn't have, so the 060 has to transform the chunky image into bitplanes which slows down another vbl or so.

And lastly; Quake on intel is assembler optimized. Sure DougQuake have the worst C-shortcomings fixed in the inner loops, but still not very optimized (check Amiga Quake, there is a properly optimized quake for 060).

In short; DougQuake on CT60 is slower than your P/100 because of chunky video mode, only small assembler optimizings for 68k and the video-memory bandwidth is much lower on CT60.

Solution to this? The nature graphics card of course (http://supervidel.atari.org/) and naturally more (better) optimizing of the code.
