Hi,
yes you can't use Timer-B in delay mode for sound effects and also use it in event mode (HBL) for rasters.
In maxYMiser you can select which of the three timers should be enabled for sound effects, under the config menu. See screenshot: http://ae.dhs.nu/pics/mymtimers.png
Channel 2 is set for Timer B, unclick that and it will be left unused. However, sound effects (PWM, DIGI, Syncbuzz, custom waveform) will not function on that channel, it will be limited to "pure" YM sounds. Usually it's a good idea to use that channel for drums and/or buzzer basses that is pure hardware YM stuff. Tao / Cream (legendary Atari composer) often does it like that with great results (see the STEPS music demo for nice examples: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=1031).
Another thing to take notice of is that the MFP prioritize from Timer A to D. So a sound effect on Timer A is more likely to disturb rasters than a sound effect on Timer D.
To put it short, if the music is already using up Timer B, and you need Timer B for effects, you're screwed, it's not compatible. You should have planned better :-)
