Just for reference, GEMDOS error codes are here: http://toshyp.atari.org/en/005003.html . So only if you get a -33 in d0 was the file not found and can check the rest of the drives etc.

Anyway, read my answer again for some ideas about the track loader. If you write a fat parser you can load any file on disk without GEMDOS. This has the bonus of using actual files instead of making a custom disk, and also if you drag the files to the hard disk it can be installed and run there (of course you have to make an extra check to see if you're running from hard drive or floppy and use GEMDOS or your DMA file loader). If you're interested I'm pretty sure there's some code examples that do that but if you can't find any just give me a shout and I'll upload some for you.
