Of course it is worth use. It makes many things so easy. Everytime you need to (pre)calc something, you don't need to work with fixed point numbers only, you can just round them down in the end of process. Specially operations like square root, complex polynomials etc are so nice to put into fpx registers...
Of course, if you use C for precalcs etc, it doesn't matter.
