Well, let's see...

To anwser the specific question:$472+$22=$492 (takes a look at hardware.txt)... it seems that the area from $48e to $49e is called "Memory descriptor block", should contain stuff by getbpb then or something like that.

As for source code: The TurboAssembler package (which cam be found on this site under coding tools) has source for a reset-proof ramdisk called vdisk. Grab it! (although the comments are in German).
