Agreed, but still, rewriting this part in assembler actually made things a bit faster (not a lot, but noticable) when executed on a stock 030 falcon (code created by GCC was at least twice as big if not more).

The C functions called are generally very short, and I can't do much about them (unless I rewrite pretty much everything in assembler, which isn't really feasible in this project).

I'll look at the most frequently executed C functions and see what I can do there. Thanks MiKRO :-)
