Yeap, pretty much exactly what evil said - the hbl is the lowest priority interrupt on the ST. Use Timer B or avoid the first 60 pixels or so.... (dont change the background) And you still loose a whoole lot of cycles for all those lines in the border.
It was very useful for Ratu tho - if you just want to make some noise its perfect ;)
