I've used these adapters for years and even used a switch from joysticks to deskjets with no harm at all to anything if that puts your mind at ease.
I've made a lot of my adapters myself years ago and I'm NOT good at soldering. But in all honesty, I avoided working on this stuff during the dry season :-P
