I made the mistake, I replaced my Falcon HDD with a Compact Flash and it was unreadable under Windows :(
It can be read if you have Linux, or a special (yet unreleased) tool on Windows.
For now I'm using a HxC floppy emulator on my falcon so I can transfer small programs using an SD card.
For larger program I made a tool that can read the files directly from the SD using the HxC floppy emulator but it's very slow (8k/s)
The good news is, we are working on a easy to make SD adapter that you will plug in the STe/Falcon Joystick port, it will cost a few euros to make, and I'm currently working on software, but it's still in early stage and I can say how fast the transfer speed will be.
It might work like a ram disk for easier access (but then FAT32 won't work)
