You probably all got this, but just in case you didn't (he also attached two photos that I can't upload here):
Hello,
This message is only for REV.6 060 users.
I have some big problems with the lastest 25 CPU I received for your friends that ordered a CT and are waiting for it !
The CPU were marked correctly 71E41J mask on the right corner, so they should be REV.6 ! But in fact, according to the internal PCR the CT60 read on boot, they are REV.5 (G65V mask).... and so are not able to run more than 75 MHz instead of the 95 MHz...
The MC68060RC50 reference is white painted on the CPU and I have all reasons to think that those CPU are a swindling !!
After several heavy discussions with my US furnisher (the 1 month warranty is out), he is agree to try to find others CPU to exchange them to me... but I will have to pay all shippings and fees !
He recently found an other furnisher with MC68060RC50 and 71E41J mask and he sent me the photo, but the MC68060RC50 reference is again white printed, not engraved... and the left border is S23328-002, and I think it may be again a bad and false REV.6 CPU.
I was thinking all rev.6 have MC68060RC50 reference that is engrave, never white painted ! For me white painted is a false rev.6, a rev.1 or 5 that was erased and reapainted with a dummy reference and mask as it is practiced by some not honnest guys and companies...
But I have again 170$ + 120$ of shipping and bank fees to pay, and maybe for nothing !!!
It is why I ask NOW and URGENTLY request your HELP if you can read the top surface of your(s) 060 rev.6 CPU, please can you answer to these questions :
1- Can you tell me, if the MC68060RC50 reference is white painting or engraved in the ceramic case ?
2- Can you tell me the letters and numbers on the left border : should be S23328-00x...
Can you read -004 or -002 ???
I knwow that you will surely have to unstick the heatsink on it to be able to read, so I will nderstand that you cannot answer me...but if only a few numbers of people can answer me, it will confirm me that I have to have doubts on these new CPU proposed to me or that I may accep them because it is normal to have -002 end of ref on the left border and normal to have a white and not engraved reference...
I did not tried to find some informations on the net about this...I do not think it is possible, but if one of you know a old ingeneer at Motorola (now Freescale that very well knows the story of the 68060, the mask and the signification of the S23328-00x mark ...I'm agree you ask him ;-)))
Many tkanks for all CT future users.
