hey timbral, cool you like the editor.
dma and sts already answered, but to go into details:
as dma says the background is not bitmap based, it uses a custom video terminal emulation. i'm not interested in converting this to use bitmaps. using the vt emulation saved loads of development time, which is why you got maxYMiser after 6 months development rather than 6 years or whatever. why should i wait for menu gfx when i can make the change myself with a few control codes ;) it also save significant amounts of memory, plus a complete screen update takes 0.3VBL, giving you 70% CPU to 'waste' on music ;)
as sts says it should be maxYMiser with a 's'. sadly, there many not be much difference between british and american english these days... but the s and z is one of those.
