hi sqward,
i don't know the hardware of that tool only watched a few pictures now and tried to guess...
seems the cartridge doesn't provide a rom area. if it would have you would not need the disk for the ethernet driver.

but i think the main difference is the fpga. with the fpga it's possible to exchange the 68k rom on the fly. if you want to code your own cartridge you do so. also it provides a vga text output for debug values.

other ideas what you could do with it (you need to code a bit for this):
-writing log-files directly to your pc

-if you solder a floppy jack to the board you could add a floppy emulator like usb hxc.

-hdd implementation

-since the fpga is quite big and the cartridge has 512kb memory (not soldered for standard use)
you could add other things like a 56k dsp to the design or another 68k if you want.
just for fun i calculated some time ago a bit you could add about 4 68k cores with 60mhz. not talking about that it would make sense but you could if you want.

so the hardware difference it's flexibility. netusbee is designed for exactly
that thing nothing else.
