Also makes me think a bit who used the first buzzer effect first.

The documentation of XLR8 tracker calls what we know as the "soft buzzer" (triangle wave) as the "synth dream bass". Certainly Lotus owns the soft buzzer sound in his music - the bass line to 'No Buddies Land' subtune 2 is wild for example, crazy slides.

synth dream came out in 1990, but was there an earlier use of buzzer basses? i'm not in too much of a position to say.

it must have been a exciting time for chipmusicians then, with some good bass sounds from the buzzer, and the early SID voices.
