Hello Evil,
I just read your article. It seems to be a lot of work to convert every picture :) Anyway, the pictures look really great, and are converted using 100% atari tools which is a great achievement !
Some thoughts about the possible improvements :
Using the blitter in fullscreen code might be very tricky, because I assume there is reconfiguration to perform at each scanline which can make you lose quite some time. Or using the 90% blitter/10% CPU technique maybe ? Could be quite challenging in fullscreen ;)
Using medium resolution is a great idea ; I really wonder what kind of pictures would be possible to display in such a mode. Keep us informed ! :)
By the way, I have almost finalized some code I plan to release to support a new Hicolour (I call that Multipalette) file format, which supports different colour switching techniques, including the blitter-based one I use in Antiques, but also some ST-compatible methods, including a fullscreen mode with 48 colours per scanline. Converting tools from and to BMP file format will be provided. Everything is coded in C language, making possible for PC or Atari versions of the tools. Note that converting a picture on the ST may take ages :)
