As far as the writing issues, maybe you should refer to the author of the device. Send him an email or use his forum (http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/). Maybe you're using an earlier firmware than the latest and it's been fixed now? Also, maybe your SD card has become fragmented? Maybe you should format it and install it from the start just to be sure - I think it has issues with fragmented files.

Now, regarding maxymiser: As it works off hard disks, I'm sure it will work on every kind of floppy that's formatted properly. In the floppy emulator interface I see that there are options to create some standard st disks. Apart from the standard 9-sector disk there is the 11-sector 902k disk. Also you can create a raw image yourself and then format it from the st using a program like FastCopy (http://sites.google.com/site/stessential/disks-tools). If you still have problems, I can try some stuff on my own sdcard emulator here and send you some images that work :).
