well, havoc, consider the fact it was first jookie's hw project finished into some definite (working ;-) state and it was 3 years ago so it's no wonder it's not perfect. try to get some other hw developer who will be willing to even begin to thinking about producing something like satandisk and you'll discover pretty fast it's so much cool jookie did the job ;-)
prize and conditions was fair, you could always grab some hw guy, ask him to bugfix the device and produce it for free, nobody was saying you're going to receive top-notch HW from the best guru in the universe... jookie was learning the things and by coincidence, there was a possibility how some other atarians could gain from his research...
so here we are now. jookie's skills increased by playing with hw for another 3 years. it's faster, more reliable, has richer feature set and i don't fear to call it as professional product in case there would be some real market for it ;-)
to answer your question -- if you're in doubt, don't buy it. we don't want to have people to feel disappointed or ripped off. but don't cry you missed the chance when it will be clear it's kickass thing and nobody will ever want to made another batch ;)
