It seems like the server just blanked out and hanged. Likely a hardware error in some form.
It happened on friday night before christmas holidays - the worst possible time. We could have had it rebooted for a merry 240 euro, today when there's no more christmas crap, it "only" cost us 70 euro. Yes we are looking into switching CO-location and server hardware. It will take at least a month to sort things out, so let's cross our toes that the old beast will run happily for a while yet.
