As I see it, porting stuff equals increased usability for the machine. Contrary to common belief, portable software is not necessarily slower by nature. Sometimes it is, naturally, but that's generally not the case. An extremely accurate emulator may require a 1Ghz CPU for a good reason, and in some cases there is some overhead in the code to allow it to run on a wider range of systems.
I can understand Mikro, but personally I don't think porting is boring at all, at least not yet. I do it for myself, though. The falcon wasn't compatible enough to allow me to play my old games (well, Dbug has been fixing that however), and this situation didn't become any better with the arrival of the CT60. I started compiling SDL stuff just to see if anything ran at all, and I was stunned when I first saw how fast Frodo and SMS was (fast as in actually playable). This made me realize that I had to learn C. Even though I don't use SDL myself anylonger - tons of kudos to Patrice Mandin for opening up this possibility, both on the personal level and for the platform. If it wasn't for his work, I would probably have moved on ..
