How long is your IDE cable?
HDdriver seems to access the IDE interface faster than AHDI. Some troubles may therefore not appear using AHDI.
The Falcon IDE is very flaky due to bad design; the interface is connected directly to the system bus without proper buffering.
You could try a shorter IDE cable.
