Most cheap SDRAM sticks are CL3. However many of them are quite happy to run at CL2, especially when they are running at a lower bus frequency than they are designed for (133mhz stick running at 100mhz). The CAS is a latency value, giving the time to wait for the bus to read from the next column of the stick. Lets use an anology: When you are reading a book, your "CAS" latency is the time it takes you to move your eyes from the end of a line to the start of the line under. The CAS latency a stick is designed for is stored in the stick as the SPD value. This can ofcourse be overridden, because the bus gets to decide the actual timing values. Some sticks have a sticker with the value printed on them. Other just have a serial number, which could allow you to find the CAS by searching the web for it. However if you have access to pc hardware, you can check it there by entering its bios, setting memory timing to "by SPD" and then use a system info program on the pc to find the values. Or you can buy a stick that you know has the right timing.
Hope this helps :)

What's the anti-troll code? That's your personal code to be able to add comments and messages on the dhs.nu site.
Don't have a code or forgot it? Fix it here.
