I managed to obtain 6x on scsi yamaha cdr but only if it is reading from ide hdd (quantum fireball 3.5" with extra short cable)...
I didn't try atapi cdr, but could be worth trying...
(my CT2 with CT2 ide patch is faster, btw)...
I never managed to record 8x - the closest solution was to use 500 MB ramdisk as hdd partition...
<shrug>
