If you tried during the last couple of days (after Thursday last week), that's understandable since my ADSL provider made some "upgrades" and managed to connect me in the wrong place, somehow. :-(

At the moment I'm awaiting a new modem they had to send me to be able to figure out where my connection ended up (the old modem was missing some feature they needed to do this automatically)...

> but it seems to me that fVDI is not developed as NVDI yet :(

Well, considering that fVDI was for many years completely a one man spare time project (Standa Opichals recently added FreeType2 based vector font support) that has not raked in the tens of thousands of dollars in sales that NVDI must have (I suppose even several hundreds of thousands is likely considering the cost and nearly universal use of that program), this should not come as a great surprise to anyone (the only "profit" I've made from fVDI is a free prototype Eclipse board and RageII card).

fVDI has always been under the GPL and other people have always been very welcome to help out.

Anyway, the main reason why I didn't do much of anything with it for a few years (the last real release was five years ago, but there was some significant work done until 2002) was that I didn't get any feedback and it worked perfectly fine for me.
The past year people have finally (due to ARAnyM) begun to give me some feedback again, which has resulted in some major steps forward.

If there is something specific which you are missing in fVDI, please let me know.

- As I mentioned, vector font support is in there now and seems to work reasonably well with the applications I've tried. It's still lacking most of the advanced features like fractional positioning, completely arbitrary font sizes and rotation, though.
- The new bitmap conversion/scaling/blitting functions from NVDIv5 are partially supported (enough to make the programs I've tested able to display images in 32 bit colour under ARAnyM) and further improvements to that is under way.
- Off-screen bitmap support is not working, but I've begun to do something about that.
- There are currently no printer drivers whatsoever. That is not something I have any intention of doing anything about personally, since I've not printed anything from my Ataris since the mid 90's. There has been documentation available on how to write fVDI drivers for the past 7-8 years, however, so anyone could have given it a try.

I suppose the main reason why most people who use fVDI (all Eclipse/RageII owners and likely most ARAnyM users) haven't worried much about the lack of NVDI features or printer drivers is the fact that fVDI works nicely together with NVDI. You can have fVDI take care of your screen and NVDI your printer, or even have NVDI use fVDI as a "screen driver" which gave you TrueType fonts etc on your Eclipse/RageII in '97.
(Having NVDI use fVDI as a screen driver does not give you access to the new blit functions, though.)
