Out of curiosity, how many IDE-units have you got attached to the IDE-bus? My IDE-HD will be totally unreliable, if I have both IDE CDROM and IDE HD attached to the IDE-bus. In my case, this caused rather serious data corruption on the HD. When I unplugged the CDROM, all such problems vanished completely.
