Rodolphe said yesterday that is a deadlock situation who cannot be solved on the 060 side like the PCI side who support retry.
For me, tempo to all drivers (yesterday USB, today Ethernet) is not a good solution because this solution need adjustments with another hardware context. The problem is that actually the hardware not tell that there are DMA access to the memory. So now Rodolphe planned to add 2 bits on the 2 side (dma access and i/o acced from cpu side) for lock and wait unlock without freeze because controlled by software (a sort of semaphore).
