Nothing is new, it's uBoot sources added in 2010 to the TOS for replace old atari devices from boot (TOS is just used for boot, no?).
David used the same sources for MiNT, and added hot plug and play, and also MiNT migration.
Uboot support mouse, keyboard and mass storage, I don't know the limits. But Firebee user reports that keyboards with hub not works.
