For me it worked only to start fVDI after MiNT kernel, by adding it to programs to be started in MINT.CNF.
Some TOS beta versions later i was able to run it from AUTO folder, too, but i am not sure what did the change.
It might be worth a try. (Although it should work from AUTO folder as well)
