OK I finally realised at about 3:30 this morning that the source IS affected thus creating the flicker (doh).
I will have to create a list for the X number of frames required for the one colour sprite to set the OP register to the necessary values, something like (kinda pseudo list):
dc.w NOT SOURCE OR TARGET,OR TARGET X 3,NOT SOURCE OR TARGET,OR TARGET,-1
