I can't really recomend this.

Playing samples with YM is a) slow b) give bad sound (especially at the CPU-levels one would think is OK)

Playing DMA samples meanwhile the mp2 player is running requires hacking the mp2 player. There is plenty of DSP system time free, the host port is free for transfer data, however there is little DSP memory free and hooking code into the mp2 code means getting your hands really dirty.

I'd say maybe Earx could do it, as he once took the task to try and run DSP-effects alongside the mp2 decoder, but I think he gave up in the end due to restricted free memory.


My suggestion;

Settle with four channel Protracker music and use additional four channels for sound effects. The DSPMOD can do this with a quite easy interface. There you can also control balance per channel to create stereo effects.
