For plain M68K a register could be reserved but sadly not for GFA as this trashes all registers all around forcing the user to push and pop all used registers in M68K subroutines.
But if there is a clever solution to turn this into a speedy GFA inline, go ahead. :)
I guess even the current C/M68K routine can be optimized even further.
