Well, let's say that he found a third solution: he did read the manual, found about break codes and tried scanning for those instead. Since it's less likely that in a mouse packet a relative movement is as big as $81 (129 pixels!), it practically never happens, so the above piece of code works. This is actually sicker than anything I'd try :)
