I know its a tad out of date, but when I wrote a load of HiSoft Basic Libraries for HBUG way back when I could, among the THICK libraries is a command.

Dunno if Mat Bacon has the source code for those libraries but there are dozens of the most stupid bits of code you can think of, but amazing fun to write them.
The DISK Library had things like
Set Floppies, set bootdrive, Hide, unhide, protect unprotect files or folders, encrypt datafiles, Format individual tracks/sectors and so on.
My routine was able to turn A: or B: or both on or off
This was for the ST however and it must be done in Supervisor mode.
