hi there peter,
i haven't had any attempt at a 5bpp c2p myself, but maybe kalm's tutorial will help you understand the principle he uses in his code: http://membres.lycos.fr/amycoders/sources/c2ptut.html
and these sources should have some more c2p's (Amiga, but you should be able to convert their continuous output to fit Atari's interleaved bitplane format).
