Frequently Asked Questions |
q: Why VideoDB and not YouTube?
a: YouTube play at 30 FPS at the most. VideoDB is streaming at 50 FPS (or even higher for some kind of videos).
q: So why not use Capped.TV then?
a: At least for us, Capped.TV stalls alot (buffering) even if our bandwidth is more than enough
to stream the content. We hope VideoDB will be better in that respect. And of course, VideoDB
only carries Atari/DHS-related material, easier to find your picks!
q: The video is constantly buffering ?
a: We're requiring a 2Mbit/s connection for the normal quality stream and 3 Mbit/s for the high quality ones. If you don't have that much bandwidth; try YouTube instead.
q: The video is stuttering ?
a1: Your computer is probably too slow. We're using the H.264 codec which is currently among the best codecs there are. The
downside is that it requires a fast computer. To make things worse, the Flash implementation of H.264 isn't very optimized.
Either get a faster computer, try the YouTube version or download our MPEG-4 file and try in a stand-alone player.
a2: With Safari 4+ browser, you can use the HTML 5 player which in our tests shows much better performance than Flash.
q: So what quality are you encoding at?
a1: In normal quality, the video is 640*YYY 50 FPS at an average bitrate of 1536 kbit/s using x264 at full quality and multiple passes.
The audio is 128 kbit/s if in stereo and 96kbit/s in mono using the MPEG-4 AAC codec.
a2: In high quality the video is >640*yyy 50 FPS at an average bitrate of 2560 kbit/s using x264 at full quality and multiple passes. The audio is 256 kbit/s.
q: Why isn't demo X available?
a: As you can imagine, to capture, encode and add demos is quite a big task.
To have a complete set of demos would be more or less impossible. Your best bet is
to e-mail us (ae@dhs.nu) and request a recording. But we can't guarantee anything, everything is
a matter of free time and motivation.
