SuperFly - New Game From Reservoir Gods Released December 15th, 2002
Guildford, England - Dec 13th 2002 - RG, a leading developer of entertainment software for the Atari platform today announced the release of a new action game "SuperFly".

You take the role of madcap inventor Dr Snuggles, on a mission to rescue his girlfriend from the evil clutches of Professor Evil. Over the course of the game you will pilot a range of different vehiclees over a variety of different worlds.

The gameplay takes place over a horizontally scrolling playfield. The game mechanic is simple, yet fiendishly addictive. As you progress through the game you gain experience points which allow you to unlock new game modes and different worlds to play in.

The game features super smooth 60 Frames Per Second action, 21 high score tables, saveable replays, a Soul Calibur style gallery with unlockable portraits and 9 pieces of SID music composed by the award winning MSG.

With four different game types, five game worlds, an epic story mode and many secrets and bonuses, there is enough to keep even the hardened gamer flying high for the forseeable future.

The game runs on all Atari machines from the humble STFM through to the mighty Falcon. Where extra hardware is detected, it uses the enhanced capabilities.

"SuperFly" can be downloaded from the Reservoir Gods HomePage:

YM-Rockerz sister project debut release December 6th, 2002
Not exactly Atari-related, but still with high Atari-relations is the new album released by 'AY Riders'. This is a project inspired by the fab 'YM Rockerz' and they are playing on the YM and AY (AY being practically the same as the YM) soundchips.

In contrast to YM Rockerz, the AY Riders are using ZX Spectrum machines for composing. Yes, those old beasts from the 80's. Wonderful to see that they are still alive, and that they are actually looking at the Atari direction to find inspiration.

AY Riders new album can be downloaded in MP3-format from their homepage. Link below.

Alive issue six is out! December 2nd, 2002
ST Survivor relased the sixth issue of the Alive diskmagazine today. Featuring nearly 70 articles, tripple new chiptunes by Tao, Dma-Sc and 505.

The mag also sports an ST-intro by MJJ-Prod (it seems like Strider/Supremacy joined MJJ). Tinker/Teenager made a drum and base kind of module for the Falcon and Excocet/Paranoid the graphics for the shell.

CT60 latest roundup November 30th, 2002
Lots of things has happened in the CT60 development across the last month. Czuba-Tech has solved alot details and the CT60 should be several steps closer to be shipped.

Solved issues:

DSP is functional (recently announced)
Boots into TOS, FreeMiNT and MagiC

Things which currently needs to be solved:

FastRam to work
NVDI to work

The FastRam (which is critical for the CT60) is not yet up and running, and still the CT60 shows 9X (cpu, mp3 decoding) speed over a normal Falcon and 3x over a CT2 in full speed. Seems promising! Noteworthy is that the ST-RAM speed is unaffected, which is good news for those who feared that the CT60 would be equal slow to AB040 in ST-RAM.

More news when we get them..

Mekka/Symposium cancelled November 25th, 2002
The Mekka/Symposium, going on since 1996, has been cancelled for good.

Internal conflicts have resulted in that the largest 'scene only' party won't be held any longer. A replacement party called Breakpoint will be held in it's place by many of the Mekka/Symposium arrangers.

As the new 'Breakpoint' party offer nothing for us Atari people, the choice is easy for the easter holiday, see you in Dresden!

Even more round things.. November 19th, 2002
A new sprite record screen was released today by a mysterious coder nicknamed Gwen. However it seems to be noone else but Chuck/Dune.

The record is supposed to do 360 sprites which is 89 more than Leonards previous record. However, it only lasts for a second before it loops, so a big animation is easy to suspect..

The Cybernetics releases UCM #23! October 31st, 2002
The mag which just will not give up; Undercover Magascene is out in a new issue today. It's a big issue with loads articles, a great intro by Sector one and Dune, intro and shell graphics by Edo, great new chiptracks from Tao, 505 and Nemo. Another nice surprice is that the shell have got some updates (by Mr Pink!) and it does seem to work very nicely from MiNT and all (at least on the Falcon tested here).

Undercover issue 23 comes in two versions; one full and one lite. The full version contains a module for falcon owners and the intro is attached to start automaticly. The lite version have no module and the intro can be removed so it will fit on a floppydisk.

CT60 by christmas? October 28th, 2002
CT60 news for everyone who's wondering what the heck is going on. Apparently some issues with the new Super-VIDEL (developed by nature) have been solved so it will be fully Videl and TT (256col) compatible. The Nature Super-VIDEL is a Videl-compatible graphics card but with full CT60 bandwidth giving some serious speedbost even for standard Falcon graphics modes.

Below follows the latest CT60 news annoucement from Czuba-Tech.

Hello

After a long delay of silence, I bring the last news...

I modified the SDR & ABE chip's equations to allow the 100 % VIDEL compatibility for the SuperVIDEL developped this time by 2 swedish guys... I precise that the TT 256 colors palette addresses will be too re-routed to the Super Videl chip...

The arbitration problem in on the way to be killed !
I found 3 days ago... why the 060 crashes when running a 'Half' bus mode blitter test.... The 030 tri stating delay may be the cause of the problem...and I seriously think to avoid the 030 as arbiter...but the GAL U68 on the mb needs to receive a 030 arbitration sequence to tri-state and accept an other bus master (the CT60)....
Sure with a small wire connected on 2 pins on the GAL it is easy to do that... But I continue to keep the ' 0 solders' mounting concept...and it is no easy...

This saturday, different concept and tests will be tested.... and I will announce good news next week...

I'm sorry for this long delay to ship the CT60....but I really think some of you will receive their CT60 for ...Christmas...

Regards

Have a wild guess.. Yes it's D-Bug time again October 20th, 2002
Grazey made a hat-trick into DHS news, the frist ever as far as I know, congratulations. And what an active UK scene we've got all the sudden. Now we're only waiting for the OCWAS data-disk to arrive any day and the UK comeback is cemented.

D-Bug brings us another compact disk with games. A small DHS intro and a nice new chiptune from 505.

Oh and that OCWAS thing above was a joke, in case you thought of holding your breath waiting for it!

Ultimate music demo 8730 - RELEASED! October 6th, 2002
Finally, finally!

It's been four long years adding thousands of tunes and loong nights of coding for our favourite music ripper Grazey / PHF. But now he's ready.

The ultimate music demo 8730 (SID 6581 + YM2149 = 8730 for those who wonders!) is now released. It's massive, 4646 tunes collected into 10 disks. But Grazey has been kind enough to supply us with a harddisk version of the demo was well so we don't have to swap disks.

As if this wasn't enough, PHF has added a phenomenal 20 minute long intro, with text, music and sequences thru over a decade of Atari ST chipmusic evolution. A real tour of nostalgia.

The demo is made for ST/e, but 'mostly' works on Falcon as well. Some sound drivers are just not compatible with Falcon.

Escape releases weird program October 5th, 2002
Escape has released a small utlity, the description from Charon/Esc is as follows:

Atari 8-bit computers have a great feature, that you really begin to love, when being at an Atari 8-bit focused coding convention: its great loading sound. With POEB there is a similar feature for TOS computer systems available now. Those, who never had an Atari 8bit will love this great new feature. ... and maybe this tool can help those 8bit freaks who never changed their platform to Atari 32bit because of the missing loading sound.

Hemoroids have released an old 150K demo which apparently (as far as I can tell) has not been spread before.

The demo mentions to have been released at some unknown party in france 1993, but it seems to have failed that. It's quite a nice thing as always from Hemoroids, in classic 'multipart'-style.

50 CT60 are now ready to be shipped...

But a 'small' problem stills with the Blitter in half transfert mode...

I found some information this week about what may be the cause...

I hope to find the solution at last the week end....

Some of you requested some info...I can't tell more without boring technical details...

I do all my possible to be able to ship a 'perfect' product...

Alive diskmagazine issue 5 released June 30th, 2002
The fifth issue of Alive, written by former Maggie and UCM bosses have been released.

It has the things you take for granted by now; three brand new chiptracks (I think Tao has outdone himself this time!) module music for Falcon users and lots lots of articles.

A slight trend-change is that Alive 5 comes in two flavours; one Falcon and one ST edition. The reason is that the 1 MB ST version just can't hold all the extended Falcon datas on one floppydisk. The shell should still be the same for both versions.

Intros by .tSCc. (ST) and Mind Design (Falcon) included as well.

CT60 status June 16th, 2002
The saga of the CT60 is starting to become a bit longsome. After the boards were produced, the manufacturer made an error and put the Falcon-bus pins on the wrong side of the board. Which seems amazingly silly even to an amateur. In any case Mr.Czuba has sent the cards back for correction, and there is a new update on the current status available today.

Below follows the original mail from Rodolphe Czuba:

Hello,

I will get the CT60 with the corrections, next week end...

Last Friday I found a big bug on the SDRAM chip.
It is corrected and I will verify this this evening at 23:30 !.

I know that some people are now thinking that the time to deliver the CT60 is very long, but I spend a very short time on the CT60 because of my job and my travels between France and Switzerland...Hopefully I get a PC notebook to work in the TGV.

During this evening (in the TGV) and the week I will finish the CT60 External arbiter : the one that allows the falcon bus arbitration between motherboard (Blitter/SDMA) and CT60.
The internal arbiter that arbitrates between 060 and CT60 slot is finished..

It still a bug on some DSP accesses, but we will work on it when Didier Mequigon and Xavier Joubert will get their CT60, because the cause of the bug (hard or soft or both) is not identified... Maybe the following week.

And as soon this last problem is solved, I start shipping CT60 to you !

I did some nice pictures 3 weeks ago of the new CT60, but no time to modify the web site : I will install the pictures next week end !
It will allow you to positively wait for your CT60 ;-)

16x16 sprite record beaten May 26th, 2002
Leonard of Oxygene continues to do hardcore coding tricks to beat old reocrds. Recently he has beaten his own record by a quite good margin.

TCB did 134 in 1989, and thirteen years later we have 212! And that without upgrading hardware. Thirteen years of optimizing a 4 colour sprite routine. Madness. But I like it.

MJJ Prod back after years of idle.. May 5th, 2002

I belive the pictures are both previously unseen and some 'best of' from each of the graphicans. The 'demo' itself is quite simple and is programmed with GFA Basic.

Mekka/Symposium 2002 report April 8th, 2002
Thanks to Deez / Mind Design for typing this report!

Mekka-Symposium 2002

Mekka.. biggest sceneparty of them all, no gamers, no warez and no leeching. All during easter in a small town in Germany. Is it worth attending? That was the question I think we all asked us before going there.

For me the trip started like a nightmare, SAS (the airline, not the special forces) lost my luggage on my way from UK to Sweden, luckily I was able to borrow sleepingbags and airbeds from other atarisceners at the party.

We had our own table reserved for the atariscene only, room for about 10-15 computers near the entrance and surrounded by PCs and the occasional c64. We had already planned to do some sort of demo so work started immediatly. However, since I didnt bring any sources at all I couldnt contribute very much but in the end we managed to finish atleast a short 96kbtro.

About 1400 sceners had found their way to Fallingbostel this year, mostly PC users and not as many amigas as I had expected. A few c64s and about 20 atariusers.
Personally I expected a lot of sceneactivity with C/asm sourcecodes on every other monitor and I was very disappointed to find the usual 'partyscenario' with porn/warez leeching and drunk/stoned people. Most annoying thing was (not surprisingly) the polish 'sceners', they kept drinking and running around with a polish flag. I spoke to a few other sceners (PC) and they were well pissed off because of them.

1400 is a huge amount of people, stuck in one big hall but a lot of people were interested in atari and falcondemos which was a nice surprise, I wish more atariusers had attended the party.
During the party I was very negativ towards going there again but now I have almost changed my mind, I dont mind attending Mekka again, as long as more of us go there. If we can boost some 50 atariusers I'm sure the organizers would let us participate in amigacompos if we wanted to. This is our chance to show the rest of the scene that atari is still alive!

The real Mekka releases! April 2nd, 2002
Okie, forget the April fools-joke below (it did trick a few people though), the real files from Mekka/Symposium are here now.

We actually didn't expect any releases, so it's nice to be surpriced sometimes. Ephidrena, previously only active with music on the Atari, released their first Falcon demo. It's _very_ 'new school' and yours truly didn't fully know if it was working or not while watching. Secondly the never-ending Spiceboys saga continues. This time with something that could actually be seen as a demo (or intro) was presented.

Compatibility-wise it was a bit tricky to get both demos to run. The Ephidrena refused to work on 68mb Falcon (claimed there wasn't enough ram and wanted more tt-ram) and the Spiceboys demo didn't work (locked up after a while) on 16 MHz while it worked on CT2 (although some people says it works on 16MHz now..).

And that's about it. You can download both files below (thanks to MC Laser for posting them).

CT60 update! March 16th, 2002
Czuba Tech has announced some interesting news about the CT60. The card will be delivered with oscillators for 66 MHz operation if you own a 50 MHz 060, and a 72 MHz oscillator if you have a 60 MHz processor.

Well, that's not really new as we reported something similar before. However, the new thing is that the CT60 will be shipped with a bus-speeder as default! Although not actually needed for installation, this device will greatly improve speed against ST-Ram. The bad side of course being soldering is needed if one chooses to use the bus-accelerator part.

The CT60 will be produced in 150 units, and a second run of cards will be produced later if there is interest.

New Alive mag February 26th, 2002
A new issue of Alive, namely number four was released today. The new issue is a couple of days late to do the wait of an intro from the Creators, which unfortenly never made it to the mag in the end.

The magazine features the usual things we're gettings used to, and also including intro graphics by Exocet, shell graphics by Edo and music by Tao, Dma-Sc, 505 and Toodeloo.

There are about 70 articles to enjoy, including a big Alternative Party 3 report from CiH (his party reports are always good to read).

Latest news on the CT60 February 24th, 2002
Czuba-Tech has annouced that the CT60 is going to production in the next week, with a production time of three weeks. This does indeed indicate that we can have the CT60's before april as previously annouced.

The latest specification information tells us that the CT60 will be able to run both a 66 and 80 MHz clock, depending what CPU-type is used (60 MHz chip can do 80 MHz and 50 MHz chip 66 MHz).

Rodolphe also annouces that the first benchmarks of the CT60 will be made available next week. We'll be back with more information then.

Creators makes Atari debut with new ST game February 17th, 2002
A couple of weeks ago we reported that the C-64 crew 'Creators' have had an Atari division started, and we're now presented with their first release.

It's an ST/Falcon game mainly made by Exocet/Creators. The title is 'Mem' and should remind quite much of the 'Memory' game.

Reservoir Gods updates Chuchu Rocket February 16th, 2002
A new version of Chuchu Rocket (v1.18) was released today with some interesting changes.

The graphics routines have been rewritten to add support for non-blitter Ataris, which means that it's now possible to play Chuchu on ST/STf/STm/STfm and TT machines as well as STe and Falcon. Naturally owners of plain ST machines won't get the DMA sound effects.

xTOS presents schematics February 12th, 2002
About one year after the xTOS project was annouced, we have been served with.. Ahm, nothing. Until now. Yesterday xTOS released the first schematics of the machine.

However, the schematics seems like something drawn up in an afternoon with Truepaint. I'm not hardware guru, but this seems a 'bit' sparse after one year of development?

CT60 for production shortly! February 11th, 2002
Good news everyone! (yes I've been wathing too much Futurama lately..)

The CT60 accelerator development is going well. So well that Mr. Czuba plans to start the production at the end of this month! Anyone interested to buy one should register NOW, as there will be as many cards made as there are orders (with a little margin though).

Bad news everyone! It would also seem the 060-chip itself have problems running at the claimed 80 MHz, but in 66 MHz it is fine and the memoryspeed is:
SDRAM : READ (page Hit) : 133 MB/s - WRITE (page Hit) : 176 MB/s

YesCREW finishes new Graoumf Tracker version February 10th, 2002
YesCREW, recently known for doing a GEM Graoumf Tracker player have now started digging into the Graoumf Tracker editor as well.

The result is a bugfixed, faster and more compatible version of the editor.

YesCREW has also been busy adding new functions, such as FastRAM compatibility, FAST-Mode for pressing out some more channels, a backdoor to GEM, where you can control replay frequency, load and save modules and much more.

Definitly a 'must have' for any Graoumf musican.
