Today Czuba Tech announced that they have 78 pre-payments of the CT60 accelerator card for the Falcon. As the card will be produced when the count reaches 100, it's getting high time to pre-pay.

It is not known if further batches of this 'next-gen' Falcon accelerator will be produced, so if you're planning to get one, it's safest not to wait for the next round..

Reservoir Gods November 8th, 2001
As a lightning from clear sky, Chu Chu Rocket finally made it to the STe and Falcon today. Well alright, it wasn't completely unexpected that we'd see this game any of these days, as it's been in the final beta testing the last couple of days (as been reported on irc #atariscne).

Chu Chu Rocket is a multiplayer puzzle game originally released on Dreamcast Sega console, and has been faithfully converted over to the STe/Falcon. MSG of Reservoir Gods have composed over a dozen new synthetic game-tracks and the digital soundeffects from the Dreamcast version are there.

The game is released in two versions, one which require a 2 meg machine containing the sampled effects, and one for plain 1 meg machines without samples. For best framerate at tough times (lots of sprites on screen) a Falcon is recomended.

New!
Updated version with MSTe bugfixes!

Compo reminder September 11th, 2001
To people who has planned to participate in the online competitions, here is a reminder:

The deadline is in four (4) days, on Sunday this very week. So far we have four finished effects sent in, lasting a total of about 230 seconds. We have been informed that one, possibly two more screens are due for the compo before sunday as well.

In the chipmusic department, we have six contribs, lasting nearly 12 minutes in length, so it's very well covered.

On the graphics front, it is cheerful as well, we have eight pictures so far, with a 9'th one promised.

So if you're holding back on the contrib, it's time to send it in now, remember that it's best to be a little early than a little late...

Reservoir Gods September 11th, 2001
We were told that Reservoir Gods was going to release their new ST/Falcon game at the Error In Line II party last easter. Those who had expected to get a copy there, went home with long noses.

It seems like the game went on pause, and the Cafe Fuji suddenly got active. Now the Cafe is in sleep again, and what happens? A new release date, or release month actually, has been set. The new Reservoir Gods game is marked for release in October 2001.

The Gods have put up some screenshots on their site, and if these are similar to the Playstation version I don't know. Click the link below to find out.

JagFest 2001 report July 2nd, 2001
In E-mail today, Songbird Productions reports from the JagFest party in USA.

Songbird JagFest2K1 Report

I am thrilled that Songbird had a chance to attend JagFest2K1. My hat is off to Dan Loosen and company; he did a fantastic job of finding a great location, bringing in lots of interesting collections, and keeping the whole day running with all the tournaments planned. We had a record-breaking attendance of over 80 people. Nice job, Dan!

The GOAT Store and Songbird were the only two vendors I was aware of at JagFest. And really, that was plenty for the Atari systems, although I could see in the future more vendor coverage for other classic/neo-classic systems. Telegames had allowed me to vend some of their merchandise as well, so Songbird had three tables chock full of cool stuff, from Aircars to Rapid Fire Controllers (which were a hit, BTW!) to Lynx Champ Rally.

It was great to see all the cool collections... everyone hauled out their best and shiniest protos for display and play. Kevin Mosley is truly an Atari fan with that Lynx AvP cart! That's an absolute one-of-a-kind item you'll likely never see elsewhere. The Museum of Classic Gaming was incredible, I couldn't believe all the stuff in there. Thanks to Marty and company for making that possible! Terance brought a Gorf demo for the Jag, but unfortunately no one had a laptop with the Jag dev kit installed. An early alpha of OMC's Dark Guardian was there -- very nice, James! Looking forward to another cool shooter on the Jaguar.

The JagVR units were definitely a highlight of the show for me personally. I only tried it for five minutes, and it was jumpy due to all the handling that day, but to think that Atari had pioneered VR for a home system is incredible. The responsiveness of the unit and the speed of the game were quite impressive. Thanks to Ted and Clint for making this possible!

The 10-player BattleSphere network was another highlight. They spent a LONG time trying to get it to work -- so long, that I was encouraging them just to live with only 8 or 9 Jags networked. But their perseverance paid off, and everyone cheered and clapped when it all got running. This is the kind of thing you will only see at JagFest.

Thanks to Dan's family for providing all the food at a reasonable cost for the event, I surely appreciated it!

I loved the tournaments. We fell behind schedule at times, and some people had to leave early which kept them from participating, but it was a lot of fun seeing Ponx and Champ Rally and Protector SE being put through the paces. A lot of people are still impressed at how much fun Ponx is (it's the best selling Songbird Lynx game, BTW), and Champ Rally is quickly becoming a Lynx favorite as well.

I got lots of good feedback on Protector SE. Several people asked throughout the day if I had added new layers of scrolling to the game, and I hadn't! It was just the new graphics -- all modesty aside, they really turn the game into a graphical knockout, and everything stands out so much more. People also liked the gameplay adjustments; anyone who has complained the game gets too hard too fast will be pleasantly surprised with the easy pace of the first 10 levels or so.

The CD Bypass announcement was the Songbird highlight for the show. I gathered everybody around and showed them a BHH CD, which, since it's unencrypted, won't boot up on a regular Jag CD unit. I then inserted a Protector SE cartridge, and after a couple of tries, the CD did boot up and start playing. I explained that once Prot SE is released, anyone who knows their Jag programming stuff should be able to burn and release new games on CDs. You can even turn an unmodified Jag/CD combo into a developer system. No custom chips or cables necessary, just Prot SE on cart! This is a cool and exciting development for the Jag community, and I sincerely hope any current or aspiring Jag developer out there will take advantage of this to self-publish their upcoming games or work with Songbird to do the same.

Finally, I didn't play a single game at the fest. The only exception was a couple seconds here and there, to show off a Rapid Fire Controller or help someone learn Total Carnage. But you know what? I still had a blast. Why, you ask? Because of the fans. You guys, the Atari Jaguar and Lynx fans, make these shows worthwhile. It is so much fun to rub shoulders with such incredible, dedicated, and friendly fans. I love answering questions (when I know the answers :) ) to why such-and-such was never released, or do you know which company worked on this game, or are there cheats you haven't published yet, what is Songbird working on next, etc. It was great to see the familiar faces, and meet lots of new people as well. Meeting and talking with the fans is really what makes JagFest such an incredibly unique opportunity. I'm already looking forward to next year's fest.

To everyone, organizers and fans alike, who made this year's JagFest possible, a sincerest thank you from Carl Forhan at Songbird Productions. Let's keep the Jaguar and Lynx alive for another five years.

CT60 delayed April 27th, 2001
The upcoming 68060 accelerator from Zcuba-Tech is delayed. It is announced on their website, the development will not continue until the third week of May in best case. Meanwhile the number of orders for the CT60 has increased to 148 persons.

Now when the CT60 is officially delayed, wouldn't it be a smart move from the Tempest creators to get their product out NOW, so they have an advance from the beginning? Also, there are rumours about a fullspeed PCI-interface for the Tempest, but nothing has been confirmed officially, why?

It seems like both Czuba-Tech and Cortex Designs are trying to avoid getting any customers..

Error In Line II counting mistake April 20th, 2001
As most people has been saying after the EIL2 party, the Toys demo 'Wait' is an excellent one, and everyone has been more or less confused how it could end up at second last place.. Well, there seems to have been a slight mistake during the counting of the votes, something that easily happens when you're dead tired, but still try your best. But apparently it happens even the best.

You can read the official note about the accident below.

After having read several statements in the internet and after we had found time to have a look at the Falcondemos that were released at EIL, we came to the conclusion that something might have gone wrong when counting the vote-sheets. Especially since the Toys-demo is obviously not fitting that well to the 5th place.

However, now we have recounted all votesheets again to verify our counting. We discovered a embarassing mistake concerning the Toys-contribution 'Wait.'

Actually, we wonder where those mystical 70 points have escaped to during that Sunday night. But however, they are back now on the votesheets.

And that leads to a new ranking order for the F030-demo competition:

FALCON DEMO COMPO
1. Escape Hmmm... 366
2. DHS Don't break the oath 328
3. Toys Wait 297

We feel very sorry about that mistake and want to excuse us especially at all contributors of the F030 demo compo.

Of course everyone can keep their prizes, every entry deserves one for sure. Additonally, we will contact Toys, so they will get an additional price for their 3rd place.

Sorry again! We hope that this will not spoil the good memories of the party.

Cream April 18th, 2001
Cream has recently released a new plugin for Jam. It's a rather crazy thing. It plays the BIG-Demo songs from Mad Max, but it autoamticly adds tripple sidvoice effects to the channels! It's absolutely cool to hear the classics in this form..

Error In Line II results April 18th, 2001
The Error In Line II competition results can now be viewed in two different versions. The original one userd at the price ceremony (but in graphics shape there), and an enhanced textfile by Mc Laser.

For a better understanding of the points; each person could rank every contribution from 1-9 (or was that 0-9 ?) points. Which in theory should be better suited, especially for close competitions where there might be several that deserve the same number of points.

Error In Line 2001 - First little report April 17th, 2001
The question everyone were asking.. Could a sequel ever be as good as the original? Although it seems impossible in the world of Hollywood, the Atari guys from Dresden has proved that the sequel can be as good, or even better.

To make a short story long, here we go..
Going to Dresden from middle of Sweden takes a little while, so already at thursday 10.00 we started driving towards the party. We drove into the middle of nowhere to pick up ZPQ. Once done we continued to the NoCrew headquarters in Gothenburg. Most (all?) of the people who were going was already there so we made a short break and then went down to the boat and checked in. The boat trip was nice, and for once yours truly controlled the beer consumption on the ferry and didn't get very drunk. However our driver RobertK was really.. hum, well no words describe it ;-).

Like a miracle RobertK was alive in the morning and even wanted some breakfast, phuew.. now Evl didn't have to do the driving on the Aooooutobaahn for the next nine hours. Driving and driving and driving and.. Dresden! Yeah.. we were finally there and met Scy/Tscc directly. He gave us some hints how to bypass the entrance-barrier. Thanks mate, it saved us alot of carrying (paranoid: enjoyed all the carrying? hehe..).

The party place was the same as at EIL1, same good feeling and cool rooms with bars and stuff. Excellent! The party went on, and more and more people dropped in. Finally there were quite a few crews on place, many of them working on their demos for the competition. Sitting beside Mind Design it was nice being able to see their demo grow step after step.

At saturday night it was time for the first competitions; music and graphics. There were rather few pictures, and quite many music contributions. It was finished in an hour or so, and then back to partying. I began coding an effect, which later turned out in more or less identical version as I had planned in the Escape demo.. crap! ;) Getting closer to the demo-deadline at 16.00 on sunday, Mind Design decided to give up their attempt on getting the demo finished in time. Too bad!

In wait for the demo competition to begin on sunday night, the 'Whip Pong' competition were held. Imagine this: 30 Atari guys screaming for all they are worth to get that &$%$&%&$= paddle moving. Winner in the end was Tam, with his own special technique (porn moaning? ;-)). Finally, I think around 1.30 on sunday night the wildcompo, intro compo and demo compo started. It was a real treat seeing the contribs. Sector One showed their really nice (and long!) ST-demo and Escape knocked everyone in the Falcon demo compo (really good work Norman).

After the compo there was no point going to sleep, so we stayed up chatting some hours more with lots of pals. Then, I think like 7.00 in the morning, the price ceremony took part. As expected Escape won the Falcon demo, and Sector One the ST demo (full results to follow on the download page later.

After this it was time to reverse the trip. Now, just a day after the party, it feels like even better than the original Error In Line, although no nude girls in the shower this time!
I would like to thank Norman, Nils and the others for creating this event, it's the best weekend I've had for a long time.

April fools: Avena is back! April 1st, 2001
Totally unexpected, Avena has finished and released their 'cancelled' Binliner Falcon demo.

New ST diskmagazine March 23rd, 2001
A new ST diskmagazine called 'Offline' has been released. It has a mixture of PC (buerk) and ST articles.

The magazine comes on two disks, and it starts from harddisk if you put the disk-1 into the disk-2 dir. However loading articles later fail, and show some STOS-errors. So it seems you're forced to bring up the old blank floppys again.

DSP56301 card for TOS-machines March 22nd, 2001
Maybe some of you faithful Atarians remember the DSP-part of the long gone 'Phenix'-Computer? This DSP system was redesigned into a PCI-card so it could fit any computer with PCI-slots. However it seemed noone was interested to produce such a card and it kinda fell away from attention.

Today however there are good news on this front. A german company has bought the rights to the 'Deesse'-Card (as it's called), and intend to make it available for Atari machines equipped with a PCI interface. The card consists of a 100 MHz 56301 DSP (some six times faster than the Falcon 56001 DSP!), 24 bit, 96 kHz audio output giving some real good performance and sound quality.

Legends of Espen March 18th, 2001
The authours of Funmedia has released a new preview version of their upcoming game 'Legends of Espen'.

This preview seems to have more things 'around' the actual 3d-routine, with a menu and so on. However, the preview crashes before the 3d-world appear when testing on a Falcon (at least on CT2 with 4+64mb memory).

Update:
The game does work on Falcon, just make sure the Fastram fileflags are enabled! However, it seems to dislike 320*240 res, so better set the screen to 640*480 hicolour!

The Sirius Cybernetics Corporation March 18th, 2001
The legendary ST/Falcon demo-crew .tSCc. have finally released their ST intro from STNICCC 2000.

The intro should work fine on ST/STe and Falcon. Effects includes 3d-envmapping, bumpmapping and texturemapped tunnel. Graphics from their new member 'Gizmo' and a sidvoice song from MC-Laser, all in just 38k!

Nature March 9th, 2001
We are over two months late with this news article, but better late than never, right? Nature has released the beta-version of their 4-player game 'Aces High'. The beta is supposed to be very alike the forthcoming final product. The game is a four player shooter, you control a small airplane and the controls are a bit similar to "worms" except that you can shoot your opponents here! The game needs a Falcon with 4mb, and it works fine on Centurbo II in Fastram.

Escape March 7th, 2001
It's not every day there are news from Escape, but today they have released an intro for the Falcon. It's a reminder-intro for the Error In Line II (as if we had forgotten about the party!).

The intro seems to run on 16 MHz 4mb Falcon without hassle. It also seems to work with Centurbo II, as long as you don't run it in Fastram. The intro works with both RGB and VGA (100Hz) monitors.

One to watch out for if you're into shooters!

Mini interview: Peylow of T.O.Y.S. March 1st, 2001
DHS:

Hello Peylow!

Recently you confirmed that T.O.Y.S. will be releasing their long awaited Falcon-demo. What made you decide it was finally time to complete it now? Have you got some new coders to T.O.Y.S. or have some sleeping coders woken up?

PEYLOW:

Woke up is probably the most accurate explanation. I guess I could blame my move to Orebro and new work etc. for not being active lately (actually quite a few years) but when it comes down to it is just plain lazyness.

The combination of AiO nagging me for not making the demo he has put so much work into by doing music and graphics, the upcoming EIL2 party and positive feedback I have received lately (most notably Evil and Deez) made me realize it was time to finish what I had started.

For others wanting to do the same I can recommend making a time schedule with milestones, it works for hobby projects too. Keeps you on track and gets you away from the hours spent on fiddling around with nothing really.

DHS:

There has been numerous demos and games annouced from T.O.Y.S. Including a major 'worms'-clone of which a preview was spread at the Error In Line 1999. Are all those game and demoprojects abandoned today, or are they still being worked at?

PEYLOW:

Yes I admit there have been a lot of projects revealed. Some barely plans of what I would like to do and some actually made it to beta release. I guess I should make a difference of projects and plans in the future not to make a fool of myself; it has been too much talk in a small workshop ;-).

To answer the question nothing is abandoned but most are just to be considered plans as of now. Grubs (the worms clone) is quite a huge task and will remain a plan if there is no major interest or someone have me paid. Considered, as project right now is only the falcon demo, all other project announced are for now considered plans.

I guess I have finally admitted to myself that I am only doing this for fun and I can't have fun under pressure. I am sorry if I let someone down but if I did let me know because knowing my work is appreciated makes it fun.

DHS:

As we understand your Falcon demo is aimed for the Error In Line II competition, how do you feel about the rather free rules at the competition? As in allowing accelerators and going above 4 megabytes ram?

PEYLOW:

Selflessly I think it is great as my demo is targeted at 8 megabytes RAM and CT2 accelerator. It will work without accelerator as I myself do not own any but the frame rate will be quite low.

In general I think allowing more RAM and accelerators is only good. I have not quite understood why some people seem to be so conservative. I believe allowing a more wide range of hardware for competitions makes more people consider participating. I do not believe the rest of the Atari scene are idiots and I do not want to be considered one myself; I get quite offended when people believe I can not judge a demo running on a standard falcon from one on an accelerated.

And finally not using the extra hardware is a major offence to those people who have worked hard to bring it to us.

DHS:

People with good memory will remember that you were working on a GEM IRC-Client some years back. What happened to this project?

PEYLOW:

I am glad you remembered STIrc, it was quite a pet of mine but is now to be considered a plan. Admit it is quite a shame that I put it down as it was quite close to working. Reasons why were STiK libraries that did not want to work in High Speed Pascal and the fact that I did not want to compete with FracIrc.

As I do not use High Speed Pascal anymore and that FracIrc is abandoned it might be a good time to bring out the sources again if it is still a demand for such a program.

DHS:

Thank you Peylow for participating in this mini-interview. We wish you all the luck at Error In Line II competition!

T.O.Y.S. February 28th, 2001
DHS has picked up rumours that the oldtime swedish demo band 'T.O.Y.S.' are about to release their first real demo in many years time.

The new demo should be for the Falcon, and be released at the Error In Line II, if all goes to plan that is.

What the demo will include however is more mysterious, I guess we have to wait until EIL2 to find out!

Legends of Espen February 12th, 2001
A new adventure game (seems to be similar to Towers II on Falcon) for the Milan is being worked on.

The good news is that a 3d-engine version preview has been released, and can be tested. And the extra good news is that this preview also works on the Falcon!

The not so great news however is the speed. It seems to be slower than 'Doom' and doesn't seem to be more advanced. However, it's only a preview, the final game might be lots optimized.

Note; if you will try the preview on a Falcon with FastRam (or perhaps TT ?), be sure to enable the TT-RAM flags correctly, as it help the speed alot.

Reservoir Gods February 11th, 2001
The hyperactive crew in 1998, which went completely dead over a night is now back. Well so it seems at least.

Head coder Mr.Pink tells us that they are working on a new Atari game. This time for the ST, and should hopefully be released for EIL2 if I understood the plans correctly.

The game should be some sort of board game, supposedly inspired from a console game.

Worth waiting for!

New ST demos on the horizon February 9th, 2001
Some rumours from demo-land:

Hopefully they will be downloadable from here in a short while, keep those fingers crossed.

Czuba Tech February 3rd, 2001
Czuba-Tech has announced new prices for the CT60 Falcon accelerator. And once again, it is a price cut they are annoucing.

Prices now range from $198 (1875 SEK) for the cheapest non-fpu/mmu model to $318 (3000 SEK) for the full processor with mmu and fpu.

It would also seem Czuba Tech has started some kind of "Anti-Coldfire V4e campaign", which seems a bit silly.

JV-Games February 3rd, 2001
There has been a new release of Towers II Falcon again. The previously released freeware version contained a bug preventing games to be saved.

Medusa Systems will produce the new ColdFire clone January 21st, 2001
Medusa Systems have now announced that they will produce a new TOS-clone using ColdFire processors.

It would also seem like the previous announced use of the old 166 MHz ColdFire chips are now abandoned (we never understood why they couldn't wait 3 months extra for the new chips!). The new ColdFire TOS-Clone will be equipped with the brand new ColdFire 4e processor, available from July 2001 in speeds of 333 MHz (500 dhrystone MIPS).

Maybe we can expect to see the new clone in early autumn or so? One thing's for sure at least; when this machine hit's the market, there is no other clone and/or accelerator that comes near in CPU-power.

Hint: When can we see a ColdFire 4e Falcon accelerator?

CT60 at only $200 ? January 19th, 2001
Czuba-Tech announced today that the CT60 accelerator card for the Falcon will be able to use the cheap 68060 chips which has no MMU or FPU.

The complete CT60 with such a processor will be as cheap as $200! However, software that needs FPU and MMU will not work. Cubase Audio does work without these things, and as a super-cubase-booster it's an interesting idea.

If this sounds tempting, Rodolphe Czuba would like to hear feedback by E-mail.

Mini interview: Ray of .tSCc. January 15th, 2001
Ray of .tSCc. is a rather new person to the demo scene. He has alot of interesting projects going and he recently joined .tSCc. You can read about his future Wolfenstien 3D game for the ST in the little interview below.

DHS:

Hello Ray!

Recently you joined the .tSCc.-team, how would you describe the situation in .tSCc. ? Is the crew active now (after a few years more or less in sleep) ?

RAY:

Hi Anders !

Well, somehow it's hard to tell about the situation in .tSCc. To me it seems like everyone is having his own tasks, more or less .tSCc. related.

But anyway our 38ktro 'centauri', well we didn't manage to finish at the STNICCC 2000, is in progress and it shall be released within this month...

DHS:

There has been some talk about a Wolfenstien game for the ST made by you. Is this true? If so, is the game a straight port of the original Wolfenstein 3D, or will it be a new game?

RAY:

Yeah, that's true...and it's gonna be more like a port (at least of the gfx and sounds and stuff). The engine will be a complete rewrite optimized for m68000/st, of course.

DHS:

When you are coding this game, are you writing certain parts in C (or anohter high-level languange) or are you writing everything in assembler? In that case, why?

RAY:

Well, to be honest i never seriousely thought about that... In any case the main gfx/game engine will be written in asm. But since Wolf 3d's menus are quite simple I'm coming to the short conclusion of writing the whole game in asm.
(...on the st i didn't do any serious high-level stuff for about 2 years or something...hence i've become more and more familiar with 68k asm)

DHS:

An unavoidable question when it comes to these type of games is how fast it runs. I understand you are using chunky-to-planar technique to speed up the texturemapping, how fast do you think the completed game will be? With sound and enemies?

RAY:

That's a complicated one... I think at this point it's hard to talk about speed - as I've learned from you the c2p conversion can be optimized up to 25 fps (putting nibbles and stuff) and a basic raycaster without doors, sprites, sound and especially the enemy-engine shouldn't be a pretty hard cpu-usage.

But as I said 'basic'... after adding all those things I'll expect the framerate to fall down to about ~8-12 fps !
(well, Unique Developments' Substation didn't do texturemapping, so they could get it at ~20 fps out of a standard STe...)

DHS:

And the last question for this short query. Do you have a time-plan for when the game will be finished and release? And will you release some test versions to "show off" the engine before the actual game is finished?

RAY:

Well, the RD-developments demo-engine was a huge piece of crap since it didn't use the c2p-technique and all the procs were thrown together to just make it run.

At the moment I'm working on a brand new engine, besides 'centauri' and my new homepage. I can't tell you about the release date yet but as soon as my new homepage will be done and up you should be able to get more info and of course some test-engines via 'http://www.ray-tscc.de.gs'.

DHS:

Thank you Ray for taking your time for this mini-interview, I hope everything will go well the game and .tSCc. !

RAY:

No problem, thank you...

As promised, the first 'real' issue of the Chosneck magazine is now released. It's a heavy thing, nearly 7mb in size. It carries alot of data to go with the articles, cool in-mag music and an even cooler intro by Remo!

The mag claims to need a Falcon with 14mb memory, but it also works if you have 4mb ST-Ram + FastRam.

Chosneck sure is a fresh breeze in the diskmag world, standing out quite far from other publications. But why are we babbling, get downloading!

Mini interview: Deez of Mind Design January 14th, 2001
This is the first of a line of "mini interviews" which will be done now and then here at the DHS Scene-news section. Hopefully it can give some extra insight of what's going on and what the crews are planning.

First out is Deez of Mind Design, talking about why Mind Design suddenly got very active, and what he consider to be the future Falcon demo machine.

DHS:

Hello Deez!

Mind Design has been really ultra-productive during the year 2000. What do you think has been the "trigger" to such an activeness? Especially when most other Falcon crews seems to have been sleeping.

DEEZ:

Hello Evil!

We released three prods, quickhacks for two parties and one idependent release. My personal inspiration comes from various sources including demopreviews, reading about other people's efforts and so on. I think it is very important to see people actually doing things to support atari, otherwise we might end up in catch 22, "I'm not doing anything becasue noone else does..."

Feedback also makes me active, the fact that people care about this things I produce, even if they slagg it off its still better than no feedback at all.

DHS:

We have heard some words that Mind Design will continue to release Falcon demos during 2001. What will be the key-points for releases? For example do you think Mind Design will show up at the Error In Line II and compete with a new Falcon demo there?

DEEZ:

We will show up at EIL2, with a new demo for falcon, that is for sure. This time I hope I can manage to finish it off well before the actual party, that hasnt been case for the last two contributions.
After that one I cannot promise another demo for some time, I will concentrate on some other codingrelated things for the falcon. Also, I might be a bit busy with work during the summertime and ofcourse, the famous vacations.

DHS:

What are your thoughts on the future Falcon demos? Will they demand more CPU-power than before, or can we expect the demos to have a "low-end" mode as well?

DEEZ:

I belive we've left the nonFPU, 4MB specs beind us now and since the extra peripherials are allowed in competitions I cannot see a reason why we should stick to the old standards. When it comes to faster CPUs we are getting there, recent falcondemos really needs the extra speed a faster CPU/BUS can provide. I am very sure this trend will continue, getting faster falcons and more compatible demos, able to take advantage of accelerators.

When I got my ct2 long time ago I intended to make "lightversions" of my demos but I have been a bit short on time and motivation to do so. But I guess even when the new accelerators will become available, some people will still stick to the standard 030@16MHz and claim its the true spirit, we will see what happends.

DHS:

There are two new accelerators coming up for the Falcon, both have their strengths and weaknesses. Are you going to buy anyone of them? If so, which one is your primal choice?

DEEZ:

I am interested in both of them, I've changed my mind a few times since they were first introduced and at the moment I am more interested in the Tempest but will probably buy both of them if I can afford. The Tempest has the advantage of being upgradeable with new emulation software in case bugs are found or improvements are to be made, that isnt really the case with the CT60. On the other hand, the CT60 offers PCI which Tempest doesnt so we will see.

Having the option to choose between two ew accelerators or ofcourse a nice thing but there is a flipside to that coin, two developers sharing such a small market as the atari means that they will (most likely) not profit as much as if one of them would have been the only one. This might lead to decreased will to continue supporting atari. Lets hope for the best!

DHS:

Thank you Deez for taking your time to answer all questions in this mini-interview. And good luck with future Atari releases.

The CT60 development is going on, and there has been some price-changes (again). This time in the right direction though.

It's now possible to pre-order the processor to save some more money as well.

Unreal January 5th, 2001
We are a bit late on this, but PG of Unreal has released a new version of the ASMA collection. That is, 8 bit Pokey music. The collection now features over 900 songs!

IMParty 12 January 1st, 2001
After four days the 12th IMParty ended today. This year we saw approx 30 visitors from Sweden, U.K. and Finland. Crews that attended were among others Aggression, Wildfire, Toys, DHS, NoCrew, Spice Boys (hum..), Mind Design and IMPonance.

A big firework was planned for newyears evening, and took place, with a few surprices. One big "cannon" fell down and began bombarding the house! Luckily no serious damage came out of that!

And as always, Evil took the big jackpott at the poker table (do the opponents never give up?).

The Nemesis game competition on a genuine MSX computer was won by TAM of Toys with 399100 points. NoBrain held the hiscore all from friday night to monday morning, I guess he wasn't too happy to wake up with the news on monday that TAM managed to beat his score ;-)

All in all, yet another really nice IMParty, we're already awaiting IMParty 13!
