Take a look on the photo of my opened Mega ST1:

and notice the upper yellow circle - the pins near the back of Mega ST, about 10mm away from outer ACSI connector - these are the same DATA and control lines which are on the ACSI connector.
So this means that you could use a ribbon cable with connector (width: 20 wires/pins) to connect some internal interface with Hard-Drive. Mega ST has lot of free space inside...
And if you notice the lower yellow circle, there's a free power-supply connector which could be used for powering that interface and the Hard-Drive.
This way you could add any normal 3.5" drive inside your Mega ST and it would look no different (and even better than a Mega STE with the case divided by hard-drive).
