DOC2RTF doesn't work since the file is not the type of DOC this converter supports. I have tried several word processors and converters before posting here, none of them worked. However Elmar W. pointed out that the file is a "That's Write" document (a program I didn't own, and therefore couldn't use for reading).
Elmar was also so kind to convert it to plain ASCII, so the problem is solved now.
Anyway thanks for all attempts to solve this issue...
